What Makes Blogging Meaningful?

In my world of being a copywriter, the main reasons people claim for not blogging are, firstly, they don’t know where to start. Secondly, they aren’t writers. And finally, the upkeep of a blog requires time and attention, which most business owners cannot maintain regularly.

Does this sound like you?

There are too many benefits to blogging for your business that I consider it almost an injustice not to do so. Because you have something to offer, your blog will let you have your say. It will voice your message and increase engagement by giving prospective clients more insight into your work.

In my previous blog post, I shed some light on how blogging can assist you by conveying the critical information that readers seek.

Now, what exactly are the must-haves for meaningful blogging? The most important part of your blog is that you NEVER blog blindly.

In other words, a blog should always:

  • Be planned according to trends, upcoming specials, occasions or seasons, your theme or focus for the month etc.

  • Aim at your specific audience and speak to them directly.

  • Be suited to your business purpose and brand messaging.

  • Serve your social media needs by allowing snippets from your blog to feature on other platforms.

A blog should always include the following:

  • Title

  • Introduction

  • Meaningful content

  • SEO keywords

  • Links for engagement (to previous posts; for research purposes; for referencing etc.)

  • Clear Calls to Action (CTA)

  • Correct formatting

With all that said, let’s go back to addressing the initial reasons for not blogging in the first place.

  • I don’t know where to start. Just start already! Somewhere, anywhere…in the middle? Yes! And then take it from there. You know a lot more about your business or field of expertise than those who’ll read your blogs do. So, tell us about it!

  • I’m not good at writing. News flash, you don’t need to be an expert writer to publish a blog. That’s where copywriters come in. Write without fear, and let me deal with the proofing. And please don’t take offence if I edit without mercy because my job is to ensure that you have your say but without fault.

  • I don’t have the time or capacity to maintain a blog. The other big thanks to the copywriter. With proper planning and clear communication, we can make meaningful blogs happen every month and simultaneously address the writers-block of social media posts in one go. You can either write your blogs and send them on for editing or leave the research and writing entirely up to me.

That said, I fully understand that we were not all created with equal strengths and that writing does not come naturally to everyone. The good news is that blogging is one of my greatest joys, and serving clients with a written piece that ties their ideas together, is at the heart of what I do. Be sure to look out for my next post on the benefits of running a blog, specifically for a business.
